This New Year’s Eve is a special one for the Floodisphere.
That’s because the band is turning 50. We trace our roots back to a party at Susie and Dave Peyton’s home on Dec. 31, 1973, at which Dave jammed with Charlie Bowen for the first time, and now our friends at Alchemy Theatre want to host a big “Flood at 50” Birthday Bash!
We’re thinking the affair will start around 7:30 and sail on ‘til we toast the new year at midnight. The Flood, of course, will perform a set or two, but ours shouldn’t be the only music that listeners hear that night.
We’re hoping long-time Flood friends also come and jam with us during the evening. There’s a bunch of you who have picked with us over the years!
A band born at parties needs to keep that tradition going, so players — you know who you are! — should plan to bring their instruments to join the fun.
In addition, Sam St. Clair wants us to do a documentary for our golden anniversary 
year, perhaps something that we can share with the Appalachian Film Festival in the spring.
So we expect to be shooting videos throughout the evening. It’ll be fun if we also can get your Flood yarns recorded, so start remembering your favorites.
We imagine folks will be coming and going throughout the evening. Some will stay the whole time. Other will want to make us one stop on their rounds of New Year’s Eve festivities all over town.
Either way, put The Flood and Alchemy Theatre in your datebook for New Year’s Eve. It’s gonna be a hoot!
